Nabari City, historically part of the Iga Province renowned as the home of ninja, is located in western Mie Prefecture. Despite being just about an hour by train from Osaka and an hour and a half from Nagoya, Nabari boasts a rich natural environment. Situated in a basin surrounded by mountains, its unique climate, fertile soil, and pure water make it an ideal location for producing a wide variety of agricultural products.

In July 2024, Nabari City made the “Organic Village Declaration”! An “Organic Village” refers to a municipality where farmers, businesses, local residents, and stakeholders from within and outside the region collaborate to promote organic agriculture. This comprehensive effort spans from production to consumption and involves the entire community.

In Nabari, careful attention is given to cultivating delicious organic agricultural products, including rice, sweet potatoes, spinach, and grapes. This means you can enjoy safe, high-quality rice and vegetables grown locally.

The city offers unique tours where you can engage in hands-on agricultural experiences while interacting with local farmers and residents. Participants can learn about organic initiatives, harvest organic vegetables, and use them to prepare traditional local dishes. These meals are then packed into bento boxes and enjoyed while being guided around a national park, the Akame 48 Waterfalls.

Of course, the agricultural activities change with the seasons. In spring, participants can try rice planting; in autumn, harvesting sweet potatoes and rice; in winter, mochi pounding. Here are three unique ways to experience the Nabari Organic Village, where you can enjoy learning about organic farming, cooking, and savoring delicious food.
