You’ll dye your own one-of-a-kind handkerchief, shawl or bag to take home.
You can try your hand at traditional indigo dyeing and plant-based dyeing using leaves, bark, and other materials collected in Soni Village—all inside a charming old Japanese house. One of the most unique experiences is urushi-zome, a rare dyeing method using lacquer trees that have finished producing sap. As Soni is considered one of the birthplaces of urushi (Japanese lacquer), this is a truly local and memorable activity.
Don’t worry—since the trees used have already had their sap harvested, they are completely safe and will not cause skin irritation.
