Noh is performed on the traditional stage on the premises of Aki Shrine every June or May. During the performances, hotaru or fireflies are released into the night sky.
Aki shrine is said to have had a close relationship with the Imperial Court in ancient times. Noh plays were performed on this stage from the 1600s to the early 1900s. After a halt of 70 years, Takigi Noh (firelit Noh) was resumed in 1992.
