Lake Murou

Lake Murou / 室生湖

Lake Murou, where the Murou Dam is located, is an excellent place to enjoy cycling and hiking throughout the four seasons. There are several parks around the lake, among which Haibara Fureai Park is famous for its spectacular view of submerged trees reflected in the mirror-like surface of the lake. Nearby is a lesser-known Jizo statue made in the 1200s. It is called “Nure Jizo,” meaning “Wet Jizo statue,” as it can only be seen when the dam’s water level is low.
