I visited the newly opened Akame Waterfalls Aquarium!
Formerly known as the Japan Salamander Center, it’s the place you pass through when hiking to Akame 48 Waterfalls. This renewal has created a chic space that reminds the peaceful Akame Valley. You hear birds chirping and see creatures other than salamanders that live in the valley.
The best season for hiking has begun. We're waiting for you at Akame 48 Waterfalls!

「赤目滝水族館」に行ってきました！
赤目四十八滝へハイキングに行くときには必ず通る「日本サンショウウオセンター」がリニューアルした形で新しくオープンしました。今回のリニューアルで、穏やかな渓谷を感じさせるシックな空間になりました。鳥のさえずりが聞こえ、渓谷に住むサンショウウオ以外の生き物も展示されています。
これからハイキングによい季節です。ぜひお越しください！

年に1度しか行われない「春の赤目四十八滝滝参り」、ついに今年は行くことができました！春のぽかぽかの陽気の中、数々の神事が厳かに行われました。一般の人も水行や火渡りに参加してましたが（要事前応募）、もちろん私は見るだけです😅護摩木は炊き上げていただきました。

Finally this year, I got to see the annual Akame 48 Waterfalls’ spring rituals. A series of rituals were performed on a warm spring day. Those who applied in advance participated in the waterfall practice and fire walking. Of course I am always a spectator😅 But I had my prayer stick burned to make my wish come true.

Do you know about Japanese school lunches? At World Maple Park ‘Hirara’, which used to be an old elementary school, the cafe serves retro Japanese school lunches every Sunday. These yummy dishes come with sugar-sprinkled fried dough that kids love, and you get to eat them in an old wooden school building using aluminum tableware.
Other than the delicious school lunches, the park is also famous for its 3,000 maple trees. We usually associate maple trees with autumn, but the lush green maples of spring are also awesome and refreshing. You can see the soft new shoots starting to appear around mid-April.

古い小学校を改装した「奈良カエデの郷ひらら」では、毎週日曜日に懐かしい給食が食べられます。
給食以外でも、カエデの木が3000本もあることで知られている「ひらら」。カエデといえば秋を想像しますが、春の青々としたカエデもさわやかでいいですよ。4月半ばごろにはやわらかい新芽が出てくるそうです。
